Summer can be a time of adventure, fun vacations, and filled with academic enrichments, especially if you are child whose family has the economic means to afford these opportunities.
Research shows that for children living in poverty and without adequate economic resources, summer can be a time of poor nutrition, because there are no school lunches, and a time when these children lose academic ground that they can’t afford lose. This puts them futher behind at the beginning of the new school year.
For 31 years the Famly Learning Center has provided children and youth in need academic and enrichment opportunities over the summer months. In addition, we provide these students with at least one nuritious meal per day. At the end of each summer before our students return to school in the fall we give each child a new backpack and school supplies.
We need and depend on the community’s generousity in sponsorships to cover the cost of providing academic insturction in math, science, language arts, social studies, foriegn language, accreadited classes through Boulder Valley School District and community service opportunities for elementary through high school students.
We hope this summer you will open your hearts and sponsor at least one student at $100.00 per week, $600.00 for six weeks per student and or any other amount that fits in your budget. You can make your contribution at http://www.flcboulder.org.
Thank you for your support and partnership in changing a life and the future!

The Family Learning Center’s preschool and high school graduate, Pati, in the green jacket holding her daughter, finishes her freshman year at the University of Colorado. She made the Dean’s Honor Roll both semesters. In addition to her studies and being a mother , she found time to join CU’s Pi Lambda Chi Alphs Chapter. Also, she volunteers at The Family Learning Center, helping other students master the skills they need to pursue their dreams of a college education.
You can help other successful students like Pati. Children and families with limited incomes cannot afford to participate in needed summer academic experiences. Research tells us that low income children lose the most ground academically during the summer months. This summer the Family Learning Center has over 200 students who need financial assistance. You can make a difference in their lives by sponsoring one student this summer. Your sponsorship will allow that child to continue to master math, writing, reading, science, and spelling skills, as well as participate in leadership, team building, entrepreneurail activities and cultural and recreational activities. Sponsor one student for the seven week pre-collegiate academic six week summer program for $700 or sponsor one student at $100 per week. After all, you may be sponsoring our next CU graduate.

Thank You for supporting The Family Learning Centerfor over 31 years.
Spring is in the air and graduation is right around the corner. The Family Learning Center’s seniors are busy finishing up their classes, attending prom, and deciding what college they will attend or what career they will choose after graduation. To date, many of our seniors have received college acceptance letters from the following colleges and universities: Harvard, Middlebury, Dartmouth, Occidental, University of Colorado, University of Southern California, Cornell, and Front Range Community College.
This is an exciting time for all of us at the FLC because our seniors will be graduating and the fruits of our labor start to emerge. For the first time in our 31 year history, we have a student, Gabriela Weldon, that has been accepted to Harvard. As our semi-finalist for the Daniels Fund Scholarship, Gabi and her sister, who was accepted into Cornell University, have worked very hard throughout their school years. Their parents, especially their mother, are superstars.
The FLC is all about student, parent, and family empowerment . We know that when children have strong supportive parents and enriched home environments they excel. Some families need more help than others and we are extremely proud to have played a part in their success.
Our programs do make a difference! Sponsor a child in our summer program! Let’s see more success stories! Visit our website at http://www.flcboulder.org . Let’s see more lives changed!
